Calculating the National Rankings

There are now four provincial open championships and the national championships in the fencing season for senior, U20and U17 fencers. The best four of the five competitions will be used to calculate each fencer's ranking. For team selection for world championships, attendance at nationals is compulsory, but the nationals ranking is not. For the other age groups (U15, U13, U11 and U9) there is at present only a national championship in the season. The rankings are all calculated on a 12-month moving window.

If a fencer is unable to attend a ranking competition due to circumstances beyond their control (medical reasons, fencing overseas) they can make a submission to the SAAFA Management Committee before the competition, to be considered for team selection, but no points will be awarded for that competition. This is entirely at the discretion of the Management Committee.

At present, the points awarded at competitions are based on the tables below.
